Hi everyone! Welcome back - I hope you all had a lovely, relaxing weekend. I am delighted to receive pictures of all your great work every week & it is great to see how well you are all getting on with the maths questions, English quizzes & spelling city. These are difficult times, I know some days it’s hard to concentrate on school work so please just do as much as you can 😊

5 minutesSpelling: www.spellingcity.com Week 28 - I have picked 10 activities (or you choose activities from the list at the top). There will be no spelling test on Friday; we are working on correct use of the words
5 minutes Tables / counting work: this week revise ÷8.
Write down your ÷8 tables. Count in 8s three times. Get someone at home to write down ÷8 sums for you & time yourself to see how fast you can answer these.
15 minutes: Reading - read to someone at home / read silently / go to http://www.getepic.com/students There you will be asked to enter a code: ajv1072 Click on your name & choose a book.
15 minutes: Maths: We will take a break from maths quizzes again this week & do some ‘Work it out’ activities instead. Scroll down – I have included a picture of sums for each day. Write down your answers on a sheet & email them to me every day to correct. I will be able to give feedback & send corrections.  
I know we have not covered all the topics in school so please do not worry if you don’t know how to do all of them – just try your best 😊

10 minutes: Music – Earlier in the year you did a lot of work on song writing with Tanya. Find a quiet space, use your music writing skills & write a verse of a song to describe how you’re feeling / what you miss / what you will appreciate more after this etc. You could change the words of a song you already know & use that melody. Please send me a picture when you’re finished!

15 minutes: SESE: Dublin Zoo remains closed due to Covid19 restrictions however, they have brilliant webcams showing some of their animals – African Savanna, Penguins & Elephants. Today I want you to follow this link (Click here) and have a look at the webcams – you might need to let the page load for a few minutes. Next week I will be asking you to choose one of the animals to study for a project, so this is the start of your research. Let us know what animal you’re going to study on the Padlet 😊

Some novel activities for this week:
  • Find 10 new words from the novel and make your own crossword. Add it to Padlet and see if your friends can find the tricky words!
  • Make as many little words as you can from the words HAWTHORN TREE eg. the, or ….
  • DIARY WRITING Write a journal entry for Eily entitled: ‘May, 1846: The day we buried Bridget’.

1.       Watch this video: click here – it shows 6 easy throwing & catching skills (no throwing in the house 😊).
2.       Get a ball (any size) & practice these skills outside / on your balcony / in the park.
3.       Add in extra ideas of your own (Eg. can you spin more than once with the ball in the air?)
4.       Post a picture / comment on our Padlet & let us know how you go on!
(No ball = no problem – try a pair of rolled up socks instead!).

10 minutes: SESE: Scroll down to find an Under the Hawthorn Tree worksheet called ‘Mary Kate’s Remedies’. Read the instruction in the first picture. In your copy / on a sheet draw 4 jars – draw the medicine for the first 3 jars, in the final jar design your own medicine – what’s in it, how to take it, what the medicine will do. Share your recipe on the Padlet! You can be as imaginative as you want!
